The poet Ērika Bērziņa was born in Riga in 1977. She is currently writing a dissertation in philology, entitled Latvian Literature in the Context of Contemporary Culture, at the University of Latvia. She was an editor at the Latvian Encyclopedia from 2001 to 2005 and at the publishing house Valters un Rapa from 2005 to 2006. She has been an editor at Cosmopolitan since 2006. Bērziņa is a board member at the Latvian Writers Union.
Bērziņa has began publishing works in various periodicals and Web sites in 2001. Her first volume of poetry, Ziemeļu lapsa (“Northern Fox”), was released in 2006. Bērziņa has helped to put together various interdisciplinary cultural events, as well as to organize arts and literature projects. She has curated the Poetry Days event “A Journey with Poets” since 2004. Bērziņa has also participated in various international poetry festivals, including festivals in Dornbirn, Austria, in 2004, and in Salermo, Italy, in 2005.
